Jon specialises in qualitative techniques and works closely with clients on programme development and evaluation. He has worked for a range of commercial, charitable and public sector organisations and enjoys developing business strategies with clients to build on research and embed insight into business practice.
Tom Levesley
Director
Tom’s interests focus on education, employment and skills. He was a primary school teacher before moving into research and policy, including roles with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, the Home Office and commercial research agencies. Tom has worked extensively with awarding bodies, sector skills councils and vocational training providers.
Natalia Buckler
Director
Natalia has in-depth expertise and understanding of the education sector and learning in a variety of contexts and settings, from early years to further and higher education. She joined Chrysalis in March 2016 from the Centre for the Use of Research and Evidence in Education (CUREE) and has a particular interest in arts education research and evaluation.
Anna Fair
Research Manager
Anna has a background in health psychology and leads on our largescale quantitative projects. She has worked in both academic and commercial research during her career, exploring attitudes to fertility amongst young people with Cystic Fibrosis, the efficacy of communication skills training for oncologists and ways to motivate sedentary adults to increase their physical activity behaviour.
Colin Isham
Associate Director
Colin Isham combines experience as a teaching professional with research and evaluation skills developed through use-of-research and academic projects This includes his own PhD research into billingualism systematic reviews and large-scale evaluations of programmes aimed at supporting teachers’ professional development and learning.
Colin has worked in the further education sector, responsible for curriculum design for foreign language, mathematics and work-based projects. He conducts external evaluation for Erasmus+ and Council Europe projects, and has extensive experience in the application of quantitative and qualitative methods.
Anita Smith
Research Manager
Anita is a qualitative practitioner and former primary school teacher with a wealth of experience. She has worked on a broad range of sectors over the years and has a particular interest in child and youth, education and healthcare research. Her research skills extend to brand positioning, concept development and communications testing and she has carried out rebranding exercises for schools, FE college and a hospice in recent years. She joined Chrysalis Research in January 2020 and is working on projects for Meningitis Now, Dreams Come True and Sky.
Corina Balaban
Research Manager
Corina is an experienced qualitative researcher with a PhD in the social sciences. She has recently joined Chrysalis Research from the AQA exam board and the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research at the University of Manchester, where she is still an honorary research associate.
Corina is skilled at producing literature reviews, developing appropriate research tools such as focus group guides and interview schedules, facilitating discussions, writing reports and giving presentations to clients.
Ben Burbank
Research Manager
Ben is an experienced education professional who has a wealth of experience working in schools and more recently in the HE sector. His career progressed into academic research before making the move into the commercial research environment. He holds a PhD in education and has particular expertise in digital ethnography, visual research methods, and research with children. He has specific interests in museum education and developing innovative methodologies that allow participants the opportunity to communicate insights into their lived experiences. He believes that finding an appropriate balance of qualitative and quantitative approaches is the key to providing context specific research approaches that provide answers to even the most elusive of questions.
